Alastair Brownlee and Gordon Cox
Hardback book
Kindly sponsored by Hillstreet Shopping Centre, Middlesbrough

Boro’s lowest point in history saw them begin the 1966/67 season in the Third Division after relegation a year earlier. Now you can relive the inspirational story of the season as the ‘Boys of 67’ fired Boro to an unforgettable promotion at the first time of asking.
A foreword from manager Stan Anderson precedes a detailed first-hand account from the heroes of the hour as players Willie Whigham, Geoff Butler, Don Masson, Dickie Rooks, Billy Horner, Dave Chadwick, John Hickton, John O’Rourke, Eric McMordie, Derrick Downing, Arthur Horsfield and Bill Gates tell their fascinating stories.
There are priceless memories from Radio Ayresome’s very own Bernard Gent and invaluable club secretary Harry Green with a reporter’s view of the time with Ray Robertson.
Add that to special fan memories and a packed statistics section covering every detail of the campaign, and you have a truly unique compilation in ‘Ayresome Angels’.

Megs, Scarves & Sombreros
Mark Schwarzer and Neil Montagnana-Wallace
Paperback Book
Possibly the greatest footballer ever to have played the game, Brazilian legend Pele, has written the foreword to Mark Schwarzer’s latest children’s book.
Scarves and Sombreros is the follow-up to the best-selling Megs and The Vootball Kids, with Pele, real name Edson Arantes do Nascimento, recalling, “Mark Schwarzer met me when he was playing for Australia at the U16 World Cup in Scotland, but I didn’t really know him. I’m proud to say I know him now.”
Pele continues: “The Megs series of books is a great example of how football speaks the same language to people all over the world, regardless of their background, colour or religion.
“These books show how beautiful our game is – not just on the field, but for children growing up. Thank you, Mark, for what you have done for the children of the world.”
The second in the series following the adventures of Edward “Megs” Morrison who was introduced to the world in Megs and the Vootball Kids.
Mark Schwarzer adds: “It’s a story about how football can break down barriers, as his new friends are all from different ethnic backgrounds. The book’s writer is English, while my parents are German, so we both had different experiences from our childhood in terms of ethnic backgrounds, as did our wives. A lot of our experiences are in these books.”

Megs and The Vootball Kids
Mark Schwarzer and Neil Montagnana-Wallace
Paperback Book

Linthorpe Publishing is the sole UK distributor for a new book written by Boro goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and Neil Montagnana-Wallace.
Truth was, he didn’t know anything about Australia except that it was a long way away, it was sunny, there were kangaroos, his friends weren’t there, and they called football ‘soccer’. What was there to look forward to about that?
Edward ‘Megs’ Morrison is starting at a new school. That’s hard enough, but to do it in a foreign land makes it even more uncomfortable. At least Megs speaks the language… sort of.
Luckily, football is an international password, and football just happens to be something Edward Morrison loves - but the school has no proper team, because no one is available to coach.
Megs makes an unlikely friend of a quirky old Hungarian school cleaner, but will he ever make friends his own age? Will he ever feel at home on the other side of the planet? And with no school team, how will Megs quench his thirst for competitive football?
Megs and The Vootball Kids is a story about persistence, dedication and overcoming obstacles.
It’s about making a difference whatever your background… and it’s about football.
